Mostly told from the voices of numerous American young people (children of the United Fruit Company employees), their friendships, the mischief they get into, their observations of their elders, but overlying it all is the chronicle of the revolution itself. Lots of characters to keep track of, I must say, but interesting.
(Colm Toibn): Very gripping story about a young Irish girl who emigrates to the U.S. and not really by choice. You toil through her journey, her first job, the rooming house where she lives, and her terrific homesickness, and finally meeting a boyfriend – and the road she takes as a result. A really good book. About half way through I could hardly put it down. Well worth reading.
