PROVIDENCE — Here’s something rare for Federal Hill: a new restaurant that does not have an Italian menu.
OK, yes, Federal Hill has a couple of Asian restaurants, a Mexican bistro, a steak house, an oyster bar, and even a Middle Eastern sandwich shop. But “the Hill” has long been thought of, rightly or wrongly, as the capital city’s Little Italy. It has plenty of very fine restaurants turning out lasagna and saltimbocca and cacciatore to prove it.

A: For goodness' sake if eating one teensy scallop causes so much angst just don't eat the damn things! Food is meant to be enjoyed, not agonised over.

I arrive at the restaurant to find my friends propped up at the chic bar by the entrance. Shortly after arriving we are ushered to our table by our cordial waiter. The restaurant has gone for a safe and simple continental café look. The soft lighting is rather agreeable too, but it is quite noisy, so our table of 7 sparks off several conversations with our nearest neighbours.
After not too long, the tapas starts arriving. The Gordal olives with orange and marjoram are delicious massive green olives sprinkled with coarse sea salt. We also order some mixed plates of Spanish meats and cheeses, which are very good. On the side, we are served some rustic country bread, which works wonderfully with the cheese and meat.
